The Talbot County Family Support Center, located at 126 Port Street in Easton is a countywide program providing services to families with very young children. The organization is a unique partnership between the Talbot County Health Department and a nonprofit organization called the Talbot County Family Support Center, Inc. Regular services provided at the Center include Early Head Start, GED/adult education classes, extended high school diploma programs, family literacy, and parenting and prenatal education. In addition, there are several home visiting options for families who are unable to attend programs at the Center. The mission of the Center is to provide parents and their children with the tools they need to be strong independent individuals and families. All services are provided in English and Spanish.

Early Head Start is a child development program for families with children aged 0-3. Early Head Start offers three program options for center-based families, as well as a home visit only option for those who are unable to attend the center. Schedules available for center-based participants are as follows:

 

Monday/Wednesday AM Program 9:00 – 12:00

Monday/Wednesday PM Program 12:30 – 3:00

Tuesday/Thursday Program 9:00 – 3:00

There is currently a minimal waiting list for entry into the program. Participants who are interested in enrolling will be screened for eligibility and put on the waiting list until a slot becomes available for their children. Transportation is available for enrolled families only.


Parent Education is offered at the Talbot County Family Support Center in the form of ongoing nurturing classes and family literacy programs. Please contact staff for more information or sign up to receive the Center’s monthly calendar.

Prenatal Education is offered through a March of Dimes grant and includes weekly classes with ongoing, open enrollment for any pregnant member of the Talbot County Community. Classes include a prenatal fitness component as well as instruction by a nurse from Easton Memorial Hospital’s Birthing Center. Classes are held on Thursdays from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Talbot County Health Department. Transportation may be available, contact staff for details.

Parents as Teachers is a monthly home visiting program open to anyone in the community with children aged 0-kindergarten entry or expectant families. PAT focuses on child development and parent education. There are currently openings in this program and will be filled on a first come-first served basis.

GED/ABE classes and instruction are offered at the Family Support Center weekdays, evenings and Saturday mornings. Walk-ins are welcome. The schedule is as follows:

Monday-Thursday 9:00 – 3:00

Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Saturdays 9:00 – 11:00 am (during the school year only)

English as a Second Language classes are open to the community. Instructors are available Monday thru Thursday from 9:00 to 3:00. Structured classes are held daily, and are posted on our monthly calendar.
